Reflection of Springtime
by Zorlone on Oct.08, 2009, under Inspirational
Bernard looked at himself in the mirror. It’s as if he just saw himself for the first time in years. Since he started his Medical Practice, he forgot how haggard he had become. It surprised him to see a reflection of what he thought was a determined and vigorous young doctor. Was this because of double shifts at the Hospital? The load of patients even at weekends? For what, the prize of a luxurious lifestyle?
He stepped back from the mirror, but, still saw the reflection of springtime from his eyes. He didn’t want this body.
“Daddy?” a small voice called him, “Could you take me to the park this weekend?” she continued hopefully.
It was his five year old daughter.
He stepped out of the bathroom and spoke gently, “From now on, daddy will spend more time with you sweety.”

For a while I thought this was not fiction…he he he…you've got a way with flash fiction Z. I sincerely think that you'll sell a book with just your flash fiction. Keep going. Don't forget my autographed copy though. Remember, I'm the president of your fan's club…he he he.

Hmm, a new house. Nagpablessing na ba dito? Ahahahaha. So this is for flash fiction, the other one is for poetry. Great idea. “,)

Fiction is a product of non-fiction. Wow! Really? My one and only fan. he he he.

Yah Doc Z, Saan ang celebration? Baguio? Lols!
Is there guidelines in doing flash fiction?
October 12th, 2009 on 4:00 am
LJ,
Wala pang housewarming/blessing na nangyayari. Pwede din ano? he he he. Magbubukas lang ako ng champagne at paghahatian natin.
This is more specific, the posts will all be flash fiction consisting of 140 words. So, it is a smaller niche and would not be as popular as the other writing blogs with stories.

Jhong,
Di tayo makakarating ngayon sa Baguio. Maybe next time at di maganda ang nangyari dun.
In flash fiction, you can write any story your mind can imagine as long as they are less than 1000 words, at least that's the text book definition. But there are flash fictions that can be written in less number of words. I have come across flash fictions that are only 69 words, hence 69ers and some are just 55 words.
There even less stories. I just thought of using 140 words thinking along the line of twitter and SMS where you are limited to use exactly 140 characters. Of course, mine are all 140 words.

Oh come on, we will develop their taste for flash fiction. Kaya natin
iyan. Pag araw araw nakatikim yan mga yan, hahanap-hanapin din nila
eventually ang iyong…flash…fiction. Ahahaha. That's for dramatic
effect. “,)
October 12th, 2009 on 5:05 am
Ah… I like that Jan dramatic effect! Would be nice to make a flash fiction
everyday, but from my September archives, a daily dose of creative writing
would have been okay, but some of the readers weren't able to read all of
them. That's why I am letting the posts last for a few days each.

Good tactic, Doc Z. Let them breathe a little and have their day in the
sun.
October 12th, 2009 on 8:05 am

October 12th, 2009 on 8:07 am
Don't worry Doc Z, we're at your side! Right Jan?
October 12th, 2009 on 8:10 am
Sweet story. I like this one a lot, Doc.
October 12th, 2009 on 8:36 am
Yup, we're your chorus boys and girls. Madz asks to be excused though -
she''s serious at keeping the body count. Ahehehe
October 12th, 2009 on 10:12 am
Jhong,
Parang iba ang naiisip ko na iniisip mo. Di ko na nga lang iisipin at pareho tayo ng isip.
I told you that you can write one while you're on the bus. That two hour commute would definitely inspire a lot of stories.

That was reassuring.

At least the doctor realized what he is missing! Too often many people are buried into their careers because they are after the monetary comfort (yeah, people just don't get contented even after they are able to establish their primary needs!)
I had the same realization too. I left my kid to find a good paying engineering job which is several hours away from my hometown. Whenever I get home on some restdays I always realize that my kid is growing up fast (and I'm getting haggard too). I left that job a long time ago because of that same realization…

Gem,
This one goes to the hardworking parents out there to stop and think for a while and weigh what is more important to them, their financial success or watching and being there for their kids.
Good thing you chose your kids welfare. Of course, some parents out there don't have the same options as other people have and had to keep working these long hours with strangers wondering how they became strangers in their houses.
